About the exhibition
The Dark Within is a Halloween-season group show at Gasper Arts Center, fifteen minutes from downtown Fort Lauderdale. We are looking for work that leans into the darker, stranger end of things — the macabre, the uncanny, the shadow side, whatever that phrase turns loose in you. Interpret it as literally or as obliquely as you like.
Opening night is a party as much as a hanging. It is free and open to the public, there is music, the food is a potluck, and you are welcome to bring your own bottle. Come in costume — there is a prize for the best entrance.
What to submit
Send it to eva.jimenez@gasperarts.com by 11:59 PM on September 24. The $25 application fee is due at the time of submission; email us or call 954-656-3560 and we will take care of it.
Your artist bio and artist statement.
A single PDF portfolio drawn from a developed body of work, with the title, dimensions and medium of each piece.
Any supporting material you would like us to see — web links, reviews, catalogues.
Your email and phone number, so we can reach you about the selection.
If your work is selected
Everything you submit and we approve stays on display for the full run of the exhibition — please do not offer a piece you need back partway through. We will be in touch after the deadline with drop-off dates and hanging details.
If you are not selected this time, apply again. We run two shows a month and the calls for art come round quickly.
