About the exhibition
The Dark Within is a Halloween-season group show at Gasper Arts Center, fifteen minutes from downtown Fort Lauderdale. We are looking for work that leans into the darker, stranger end of things — the macabre, the uncanny, the shadow side, whatever that phrase turns loose in you. Interpret it as literally or as obliquely as you like.
Opening night is a party as much as a hanging. It is free and open to the public, there is music, the food is a potluck, and you are welcome to bring your own bottle. Come in costume — there is a prize for the best entrance.
How to apply
Fill out the online application form by 11:59 PM on September 24. The $25 application fee is paid through the link inside the form, so your whole application arrives in one step. We can’t accept submissions by email, because emailed entries tend to arrive without images or payment.
One submission per artist.
Up to three artworks for jurying: three individual works or a cohesive series of three.
All mediums are welcome; the work should connect in some way to the theme, The Dark Within.
Hanging hardware must already be attached to every piece, ready for the gallery walls.
If your work is selected
Everything you submit and we approve stays on display for the full run of the exhibition — please do not offer a piece you need back partway through. We will be in touch after the deadline with drop-off dates and hanging details.
If you are not selected this time, apply again. We run two shows a month and the calls for art come around quickly.
