Pottery Date Night Near Fort Lauderdale
Looking for a date that is not dinner and a movie? Gasper Arts Center runs two-hour pottery classes in Dania Beach, two miles from the Fort Lauderdale airport. No experience needed, everything is included, and you both leave with something you made together.
Which class makes the best date?
Wheel & Wine · Friday at 7:00 PM · bring your own bottle · $65 a person
Sip-n-Spin · Saturday at 7:00 PM · bring your favorite drink · $79 a person
Beginner Pottery Wheel Class · weeknights at 7:00 PM or Saturday at 3:00 PM, days vary by season · $79 a person
Mosaic Class · Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings · glass instead of clay · $65 a person
Wheel & Wine and Sip-n-Spin are the classic date nights: both are popular with couples and both fill quickly. The weeknight Beginner Wheel class is the quieter option; its days change with the season, so check the calendar. And if clay is not your thing, the Mosaic class has you cutting and placing glass, then grouting a finished piece you take home the same day.
What does a pottery date cost?
Two seats at Wheel & Wine or Mosaic come to $130. Two seats at Sip-n-Spin or the Beginner Wheel class come to $158, and the booking system adds its fee at checkout. Clay, tools, a house glaze and the kiln firings are all included, so there is nothing extra to buy for materials. If you want to decorate a piece too, Paint Your Own Pottery is an optional $19 add-on during the wheel classes. Wheel & Wine and Sip-n-Spin are not eligible for discount vouchers or coupons.
Can we bring wine?
Yes. Wheel & Wine and Sip-n-Spin are both bring-your-own: wine, beer or whatever you like to drink, and at Sip-n-Spin on Saturdays the studio also supplies some wine. Please drink responsibly.
What happens in two hours?
An instructor walks you through the basics of throwing on the wheel: centering the clay, using the tools, and opening and lifting it into simple forms. The classes are built for complete beginners and for anyone who wants a refresher, so it does not matter if one of you has tried it before.
What should we wear?
Comfortable clothes you do not mind getting clay on. Aprons are provided.
When do we get our pottery back?
Wheel pieces have to dry and be fired in our kilns, which takes about 30 days. Then they are ready to pick up at the studio, which gives you a reason for a second date. Mosaic pieces go home the same day.
Dinner before or after
Pronto Pizza is right next door if you want to make an evening of it.
Giving it as a gift
Gift cards for the Beginner Wheel class ($79) and the Mosaic class ($65) are sold in our online store.
Booking a pottery date
Every class is booked in advance; there are no drop-ins. Friday evenings, Saturday afternoons and Saturday evenings are our busiest times, so book those early. Pick a date on the class calendar or call 954-656-3560. Adult classes are for ages 13 and up.
Planning for a bigger group? Private ceramics parties start at $69 a guest. More questions are answered in our class FAQ.
