Birthday Parties at Gasper Arts Center, Minutes from Fort Lauderdale

Spend your birthday making something. Gasper Arts Center is a working ceramics studio and gallery in Dania Beach, two miles from the Fort Lauderdale airport and a short drive from Hollywood, Hallandale Beach and Davie. We host birthday parties for adults and for children, from a small group of friends up to 60 guests, and everyone goes home with something they made themselves.

What a birthday party here looks like

Parties run about two to two and a half hours. You choose the activity: pottery wheel throwing, hand building with clay, mosaics, or a painting party. We have ten pottery wheels, so for groups larger than ten we split the time between the wheels and hand building and everyone gets a turn at both — a guest might throw one piece on the wheel and build a second by hand.

We assign at least one qualified instructor for every ten guests, so nobody is left waiting or guessing at what to do next. Finished pieces are fired in our kilns, which takes about 30 days, and you collect them from the studio afterward.

How many guests you can bring

The studio and the adjoining art gallery together hold up to 60 guests, with chairs and tables. The open-plan layout is built for mingling, and the gallery gives the room a genuinely different atmosphere from a restaurant back room. Smaller groups are just as welcome — a party of eight works as well here as a party of fifty.

Bring your own food, drink and decorations

You are welcome to bring your own food, drink, music and decorations, and to set up your own bar service if you want one. You can arrive early to set up and stay for an hour after the class finishes. Pronto Pizza is next door and does pizza, wings and party platters if you would rather not cater it yourself.

Sundays and Mondays by advance reservation

The studio is open to the public Tuesday to Saturday, but private parties can also be booked on Sundays and Mondays with advance notice. Those two days are often the easiest way to have the whole studio to yourselves. Friday and Saturday evenings are our busiest because of public classes, so reserve early if you want a weekend date.

Birthdays for children under 12

Most children under the age of 12 do not yet have the coordination for a pottery wheel, so for younger children we suggest hand building or a painting party instead. Both work beautifully at that age and every child finishes something to take home.
